this is disturbing but so smoothly written that it takes a while for the creepiness to set in. like the thin veneer of boring-tie government bureaucracy over whatever horrible shit they're doing to the kids. (because it sounds horrible.) i love the details about the ties and the stuff in the kid's backpack - little things that tell you a lot.
